At the start of the year there is already a celebration that is happening which is Vigan City Longganisa Festival. In this week-long celebration, it is not just about promoting the One Town One Product (OTOP) of the city but it is also about commending the day Vigan became a city. So basically, it is a two in one celebration.

During this occasion, all schools train hard for how many days to compete in one of the festival's highlights which is the Street Dancing Competition and Showdown. On the day of the festival, classes are suspended. Additional highlight is the Education Day. For the fun part, there is a carnival and food fairs seated just at the west side of the city proper with so many rides to try. Parades also happen almost everyday when January 25th is nearing. January 25 is the exact date of the City's Fiesta which is the feast of the conversion of St. Paul the Apostle which is the patron saint of Vigan.

The celebration is truly a significant event for all Bigueños because Bigueños from all over the country come home to Vigan to witness the events and won't miss it for the world. People from various places are welcomed warmly to see such great occasion especially that Vigan longganisa is known for its garlic taste and no manufacturer has been successful in replicating the said food. This celebration also helps the city's tourism to grow since tourists would want to come back every year and invite more people to come.

Despite of the events held, it is important to note that this is a way of Bigueños to showcase their culture and art to others. Most importantly, they celebrate Vigan City's cityhood and the feast of their patron saint through the Longganisa festival.
